How to Know if a site is down?

Hello,
I have a subdomain (From the hosting company) how can I know if my site is down or no ? without checking the site (can i use the IP?)
2nd Question : Is it possible to have only one site offline in a shared hosting? (ex. there’s 210 domains on the same server, is it possible that one site could be down ? or the total sites must be down) ?
